WAE REBO A PRIMITIVE VILLAGE IN FLORES jpgWae Rebo, a primitive village in flores lately becomes so popular . Among many common travel destinations of this place, this wae rebo withdraws much visitors for its amazing location on the valley entrapped by surrounded range of mountains.

The major sight of this traditional village is the circled coned forming house with a unique architecture and the circular stoned altar in the midst where local people offering the sacrifice to their gods and ancestors.

Wae rebo is familiarly called Kampung di atas awan ( a village hanging on the cloud) by the visitors. It's because the forming clouds surrounding wae rebo village, beautifully making the village seems to be hanging on the heavy clouds and the village stands on its middle.

This primitive village of manggarai is just a contradiction of modern civilization that it brings much amazement to us, an peculiar architecture that are very traditional based concepts.  The construction of houses shows a cliche of the ancient type of constructions with pure natural resources.

Just look at the roof that are made of coarse grass or coconut leaves in coned form heading to the sky. Meanwhile the wall is made of wood. Over all the portion of roof is bigger than the body of the house it self. They called it:"mbaru niang". These mbaru niang are the place of all traditional rites, prayer, ceremony of local people. These houses stand steadily with majestic view of mountains as their unsophisticated background.

Wae rebo village as it's viewed from the top consists of some mbaru niang houses forming in circle and the round yard in the midst.
Each house is occuppied by some families  who stay together with in thus it's called communal buiding. These families are descendants of preceeding ancestors staying within the house and being separated by made valve partitioned the space within according to the number of families. We find no modern equipments in the house and the people of Wae rebo have no preference to use things that are modern in essence. It's also the place where traditional musical instruments like gong, drum stored. These traditional musical means are used in ceremony of local people to counterpoint the folk songs.

Visiting wae rebo means getting ready to flash back of those time when modernization were still not prevail. we don't expect thus to use gadget like cellphone, mini markets and other things pertaining to term modern. People just savour pure natural foods like boiling cassavas, bananas and sometimes chicken purely without the use of modern delicious ingredients. This chicken is a special offer especially for the guest or visitor coming here.

People here in wae rebo village are very hospitable, they treat every visitor meekly and serving a cup of grown coffee as welcoming symbol to every guest. A cup of coffee is likewise a socialization instrument even for manggarai people in common. It's not usual then if you have a chance to visit house of wae rebo villagers or manggarai people in common without being served by a cup of coffee. It authentically is a sign of brotherhood.

Nowadays, wae rebo has become the major concern of government to make as one of primary destination for the region of flores. Through it's program, government has renovated massively mbaru niang houses while still maintaining the traditional concepts as its main value. As the visitors increases by number to go there, local people also slowly changing to be affable to modernization starting from food, clothes and equipments like television.

To visit wae rebo, we will also witness the ordinary life style of people that are quite distinct and peculiar. The main occupation of the people are the farmers. Every morning the spend time working in the garden of coffee plantation, cassava plantation and banana near to the village. They return back to their house after the sunset and going to public open are bathroom which is basically traditional shower made of bamboo placed directly to the water springs.
