Bank of indonesia considers the domestic garlic's cultivation can supress the inflantion rate. Bank central of indonesia representative in tegal heeds to pilot the garlic planting in some areas.
Public relationship affairs of BI tulus stated that it has been twice the bank of central indonesia harvested garlic with superior seed variety in tuwel village, tegal central java in order to decrease the quota of import thus suppressing the inflation.
The initiation of increasing local garlic production was made by BI through demonstration of garlic pilot area of 3000 square meter. Beyond the expectation, the farmers were able to harvest 14.5 tons per hectare much more than the harvest of previous years which reached only 8-10 tons per hectare. The use of technology developed and tropical horticulture reasearch center/ PKHT IPB contributed to the success of the pilot harvest. BI and central java government plans to sign 8 regions as pilot areas for garlic planting namely tegal, batang, pekalongan, magelang, temanggung, karanganyar, purbalingga, and banjar negara.
