NTT is being vigorously mentioned to be the main supplier for beef national need. Logistic department in charge, BULOG aim for 1000 cows per month to fulfill the demand of national market. Procurement of domestic cattle remains a priority of the current government. A number of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) has been set up to help stabilize the price of beef. Beside PT. Berdikari Persero, the government still assign Bulog to stabilize the price of cattle. Currently, the SOEs are lobbying for large-scale cattle supplier of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) to get the cow with the ideal price.
In term of quantity, the supply of cows from NTT still not to cover the needs of beef. For example only for bandung region, the need of cows is 900 per month while the supply of NTT is not significant, up to now ntt capable to supply only 750 cows per month.
Looking to the readiness of NTT, the incumbent governor express readiness to be the main supplier. Governor instruct to the mayors to simplify the regulations and retributions that overburden the producers recently. Lebu raya said that NTT looks forward to fullfill the demand. Since 2008, NTT was capable to supply around 500 cows per months and up to now it has been 900 per month.
Basically the local government supports the program including providing seedlings in two main area sumba and timor.
